Hello everyone,

I'm looking for an mdl of a turret from the game portal, to be used in an AUM-style tutorial that I'll make for this community about coding your own portal turret. If you make this, naturally you'll be credited in the tutorial and you'll be helping a lot of people have turrets for their games. Your model should come with a free-to-use-by-anyone license..

About specifications.. Poly count, I guess 1 to 2 thousand? The model should also be in two parts (2 mdl files). 1 for everything but the guns, and one for the guns. This way I can rotate the guns to target to where the turret aims, just like in the portal game. If you don't remember how this works go play portal again before starting on this. Also, in portal, the turret's initial state was with the guns concealed and when the player was detected the guns would come out. That's a tad too complicated, so for your model the guns could always be out, so your final model should look like this (with both mdl's merged):

I guess I could also fork about 20 euros for this, if doing good to the community doesn't exactly do it for you smile Either way I will make this model available for free in the end.

Cheers,
Aris

Sorry for not contributing the model itself, but i have a comment anyway wink
You could make the model as one and use bone rotation to rotate the guns to the target.

I wouldn't mind that either. I just thought I'd get more people to model this if I don't exclude those that can't do bones.

If you can do bones, feel free to use this way

Hi aztec,

The model looks awesome! Can't wait to see it skinned!

Thank you for picking this request up. I'm really grateful.

Cheers,
Aris

As for the coding, if you need help so that it can still properly face the target independent of it's angles (if it fell over), then I posted some turret code not too long back. It uses inverse rotations to find the proper angle to face, even if it's upside down wink

it seems like aztec has already got it, but if he backs out or decides the skinning is a bit tough, i'll do it for the 20Euros, or perhaps when aztec gets done modeling, i can skin it, and then me and him could split it. I'd do it for free, but i gotta eat soooo... :P

Aztec,

That looks absolutely perfect. And actually, just send everything in one model. I liked Xarthor's idea that I'm going to include in the tutorial how you can add a bone from MED and rotate it via code to do what you want. I just hope there's a second gun on it's right (camera right wink ) on the final model.. Other than that, I love it.

PM me the good stuff.. And also let me know if you want that twenty or not.

Cheers,
Aris
