Loading files from a resource works fine in my projects but I have not used that to load bmaps. I would first check if your bmap_load works when you have the file outside the resource, if not I think its a prob with bmap_load and maybe your png file format is not supported.

Loading from a file outside the resource works without a hitch. I'm getting rather nervous about resource files, cause besides wmbs I haven't been able to retrieve anything else I've stored in them (text files or images).

Yeah, so we weren't able to retrieve or utilize anything in a wrs outside of wmbs and model files. We'll find some other way of compressing and protecting our files.

This was a rather old thread - if it's not solved meanwhile, can you give a description of your problem?

Such as, which version you're using, how you're adding your files to the WRS file, and your code for reading the files from the resource. If you have the Pro Edition, you can also contact the support if you don't want to describe your problem in public. As the other people apparently have no problems to use files from a resource, I think you'll certainly get this working too.

You're aware however that not all engine functions can read from a resource? If that's the problem, read the manual description of the function you're using.

Genuine thanks for your interest!

We've been through literally weeks of research on the subject including numerous posts on the forum and extended dialogue with support and we've run out of ideas.

To quote you jcl from a previous thread on the subject of retrieving text files:
Quote:
I believe the reason that it doesn't work for you was possibly a bug. Wait for the next update that will come out soon. If it then still does not work with the procedure from the above manual page, contact Support. We'll then walk you step by step through the process.

Yeah, I'm aware that not all engine functions can read from a resource- I use file_cpy to extract an image first, for example, as the docs instruct.

There are numerous other solutions out there to protect and compress the data, and I've already poured a lot of time into the issue, so I'm just going to move on.
