I already told, that LW, XSI and Blender are similar polygon modelers with ability to do animation and rendering. Blender even has sculpting. LW is more robust and XSI is just professional. They are all similar to Max but less expensive.

Truespace is free since Microsoft bought it.

I called you a spammer because many of your posts consists of only 1 or 2 words like "awesome". You can see it easily if you watch your posting history.

Darkraven1, continuous to use Med, it is very powerful when we know it well (Ok, are missing some improvements). Why try to pay for another program while Med is free?
Your model in the screenshot is very good. To become better, read some tutorials on the methods and tips of complex modelling. Sincérement I do not think that you need professor, only practice and attempts. At your level, the improvement will come by practising and by trying to make more complex models.

yes, but gandalf, what should he do for advanced texturing and normal mapping techniques? and what about speed of modeling? MED is very inefficient with button placement, views etc. you can get the job done but at the expense of time and effort.

what does payment have to do with anything, just about any free modeler out there is much better than MED. Look at Blender or Wings 3d, both of them are amazing compared to med.

w^ Raven. I can give you a little bit of advice on this matter, since I went through (and posted) the same thing only a couple few months ago. I started modeling in WED and MED after I bought the program, but wasn't happy with what I could do. So, I made a topic to hire a tutor to teach me modeling and texturing.

Lostclimate took me up on the offer, and has been teaching me for the past few months on using GIMP to create textures, and Blender to create models. I had the same train of thought at first as well; "I want to stick with MED and WED." But, I was persuaded to take the advice of my tutor, and learn to use Blender. After about 2 weeks of tutoring from LostClimate (about three two hours lessons a week, and practicing on my own time), I went from knowing nothing about modeling with Blender, to making these:

Hospital Gurney (my first model, with lostclimate's help):

Now, try this with MED, --UV Map the model, apply baked lighting, and add a normal map smile :

Walker Model (my first model made without tutor):
Time to make: Less than 1 hour.

Low-Poly Health Medicine Entity
Time to make & texture: less than 10 minutes smile

Hospital Bedtray (based off the model in SH Homecoming):
Time to make: Less than 1 hour.

Hospital Bed (Made earlier today before work, in about an hour, lolz--not done yet, going to finish later tonight.)

Anyway, from someone that thought the exact same way as you, GIVE BLENDER A TRY. Once you learn how to use it, you'll basically have a MAYA/3DS Max modeling software, AND $3000 in your pocket (because it's free wink ) Hopefully, this helps you out...and can convince you to let go of MED, and give BLENDER a try!

Lol Cowabanga....good one smile

I like the high end modellors but they are too expensive so I use MED, the ultimate in character modelling software available tee ooh dee a y!
Seriosly, MED is a good choice if you are seriouse about commercialisation and cant afford the big name apps, whY/
Because no matter how many times you run a model mesh thru convertors, the essential format of the original mesh is still within the bounds of the original modeller used.
A MAX or MAYA file will always look like a MAX or MAYA file!
Its easy for the parent companies to check models to see what prog was used by simply analyzing the mesh structure, thats if your game is sooo red hot though otherwise, its not worth the time and effort BUT......the capability to be discovered using programs for commercial gain that you have not paid for is THERE.

So use MED for quick prototyping and move on to others when you have the basics, thats what I think smile
