Hi,

Having no luck finding a camera that I like, I decided to take a attempt at making my own Mario 64 camera.

Having played Mario 64 a lot, I know how the camera works and it sometimes goes through walls.

I was wondering if the built-in A6 engine camera does go through walls, or it is 'intelligent' and stops rotating/moving when there's a wall somewhere.

Cheers.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'build in'. Do you mean the templates or that what you can access via the term 'camera' in your scripts.
The template has some obstacle avoidance, but the mere camera of the engine doesn't.

Just make your walls and the camera entity "passable" and you'll be all set. Unless the camera code you're using is set up to avoid walls then there won't be anything stopping it from going wherever you like.

what excactly is your problem?

If the camera "go" trough walls, than set the camera to the position of an moving Object with collison!

If your camera stops at the wall but sometimes "look" through the wall than set the clip_near down!

like this: Camera1.clip_near = 0;

Camera in al scripta goes thru walls if not told to otherwise.

Morrow wing camera code has built in obstacle avoidance, as do some user examples.

A mate says Orange Brat went thru a lot to develop a 3rd person camera that worked well back then so perhaps you could find him and his thread and go thru that (its pretty big according to my mate here) for inspirstion and examples.

Other users post small camera snippets so search may yield good results too.

Also, Locoweed developed a 3rd person camera that could be stll available, I dont know as I never tried those solutions but was intending to research them soonish.
