cubic
(or: What would happen when Tetris and Rubiks Cube meet ?)

This is a little something I had in my head for a long time, now that my exams are over and the semester has begun I found the time to realize this litte casual/experimental puzzle game.

I intentional done it with pictograms only - except the numbers for the score of course - to keep the style minimal.
For this (and experimental) reason there is no written readme, just the tutorial build in in the mainmenu.

You can download the game at http://files.rawsteel.de/cubic/cubic 0.98.rar

I'll also implement online highscores via Amazon SimpleDB later.

Please give me your critics and comments and describe your experiences with the GUI/Menu.

I'm also looking for some ambient/background music, maybe depending on the game situation (like Auditorium or Boomshine did quite well).
But I'm not an audio guy so if someone wants to give it a try, please send me a pm/mail or write in the thread

edit:
fixed a highscore bug and made the background less pale

and you can place boxes inside of boxes (this shoulnt be to hard to fix else we maby can help you)

Thanks for your feedback, colorblindness is definitely a problem w/o symbols or marked cubes, interesting point though.
If you allow me the questioen: What colors are difficult to distinguish for you ? What kind of colorblindness are you suffering from ? Red-Green,...

Placing cubes inside of cubes isn't a bug, it's a feature. You can mix colors as shown in the tutorial (but I think it's hard to see with color vision deficiencies). Thanks for your offer to help, but I'm messing around since A3 and not as inexperienced as it may seen according to my low post count laugh

and more collors world be 1/amount of collor% collor
maby like a chessboard

This is very well done, I especially like the main menu.
The gameplay has potential but in my opinion it is lacking some motion, das i-Tüpfelchen fehlt noch. I mean in Tetris the game gets faster and faster, you did it the other way round by setting a limit of 90 seconds but you should be able to enhance the time of play by special actions.
Furthermore you could add for example bomb-cubes that have a number printed on the sides which decreases with every additional cube or explodes by time.
The name is simple but well chosen, too.

This game looks very cool. The coolest thing is the background.
Oh, and the menu are pretty nice actually.

Changes
  • online highscores
  • noisy background sound removed
  • every 10k points, 3 bonus seconds are added to the timer

Looking forward to critics & comments.

@H.F.Pohl: Thanks for your input, special cubes sound like a fun idea, I'm working on it.

The new version gives me an error: "Invalid pointer or handle in".
EDIT: By pressing OK million times will make it work.
