Cisco made headlines today announcing a next generation router that will revolutionize the internet by increasing downloads to unheard of speeds. The Cisco press release makes the following claims about the CRS-3 router:

It enables the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress to be downloaded in just over one second; every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously; and every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes...

Sounds revelutionary to me. smirk

Its just Bogus.

Everything is limited by the capacity of the Whole internet infrastructure,
not just one router.

Cant make a Granny run 100m in 9.8s just by having the loudest startgun.

it is just a load of words-it would never be able to do that. and if it did they would probably need a server the size of the eiffel tower to work as well as that.

... when using the CERN's full bandwidth. wink

Well it seems its specs have been released: It can handle 332 TBit/s which is about 12x more than its predecessor CRS-1 (don't know if they just skipped number 2). A reasonable update I'd say...

You are right of course, but if there isn't progress like this, one component will end up being the bottleneck to the entire infrastructure. So it's really a matter of perspective what counts more. ;-)
