After a long break I started playing around with 3D Game Studio
again. While I mostly use A5 for ( Backwards compatibility
by Software rendering )... much of what I have done will
work in A6 as well (A7 I don't know do they even
have A5 templates anymore)?

I haven't really came up with any advanced AI or anything
but I have made several new scripts and modified several old
ones. ( Lives system, Character select, Partial integration
of Perfect AI Aum 31.

I was playing around the other day and solved and old bug.

If Anyone still uses The "A5 templates" either in
A5, A6, A7. Can you confirm the problem of Level Changing
and Health automatically Being set to 100?

I always though of it as a good thing in the past.
You made it through the level so you are rewarded by
having your health restored. Then I realized that
the same thing happened to your Armour....
Which is just not cool!
Having 100 on your Armour and it resetting to 0
is just awful. tongue

After digging I found the problem to be in
the templates using "Integrated Health and Armor"
that is PLAYER and Enemy alike share the value:
._HEALTH I have partially disabled this which
I was very happy to see!

I could almost 100 percent use a separate health
system for the player... but I ran into some
minor animation flaws.

I'm still partially relying on old Health for player
but all I can say is:

I now can level change and keep less than 100 on
health and have full 100 Armor!

I'm very Excited about this!

Ok.. I have shared my excitement if you don't use
A5 templates or never heard of them this won't
benefit you.

It could be good to know if you do
use them though laugh

Good to see you are still around. I use the templates for the health and armor in A6. i have played around with the code and have added a few things myself. I acually separated the health and armor from the weapons so you can use them independently if you need a health and armor pick up on a walkthru level and with some health i was able to add a force bubble that shows when you get hit like armor. Also, i was able to get an assist to change the fps ai into a fighting attack with fists and kicks.

Blink,

You are talking of "A5 Templates" and not A6 Templates
right? I ask Because Many don't know the difference
or realize there are "A5 Templates.
The Force bubble sounds cool.
Fighting with fist and kick would be a
nice addition to the "A5 templates" as well!

I know a lot of people knock on the "A5 Templates"
and prefer there own or A6 templates.
But To me They Have That old Quake 1 or Doom
feel to them which I just love.

I actually prefer "A5 template" movement over A6.
I mean you have teleport, doors, gates, keys,
elevators, Swimming whats not to like?

Sure they could use some improvements...
But I guess There will always be room for
improvement on any template system.

If you ever don't need to update your Scripts
you obviously are not working with them anymore. wink

Wow I haven't seen you since like '05? Nice to see you!

Anyways I think you're spot on about the A5 temps. I only ever switched to the A6 temps because I like the way the weapons were managed. But years ago I did switch back for the hell of it and quite frankly they did feel more complete. The AI was horrendous with either template so I had a hard time making a shoot out fun.

I kinda feel like messing with them for old time sakes. None of my old levels even load for me anymore and like hell I'm going to try and fix them. You got me all nostalgic now, but it is close to 2AM here and I do kinda go crazy when I stay up late.

I can't see myself seriously using them though. Mainly because the UDK's templates are ripped straight from Unreal Tournament 3. As a long time Unreal fanboy I don't see how you could top that. laugh

Wow sorry "FOXZERO"
took me so long to get back to this thread!
Well my work on any Game Projects are very slow moving.
Just never have any time!

I realize Using A5 to complete a game will Never Market
beside Unreal or anything similar.
However I never had or will intention too!

I'm more of a Retro Gamer myself and feel too much
emphasis has been placed on Graphics over Game Play!

It might be 20 years before I ever publish a game
with the A5 Engine.. smile

But you can bet it will be fun, will run on any PC
and you will not Have to Upgrade your Graphic Card!

The A5 Templates / Engine is defiantly out of date,
You have to do things entirely different, not as many
features, etc.

However I enjoy using the A5 Templates ( The Engine too )
and that's all that matters to me!

Ugh. The A5 templates are what made me start learning C-Script. Seriously, even when I learned how to start using them properly they were just awful...

Player physics are retarded, the enemy AI is as dumb as a brick, the built-in weapons don't handle realistically whatsoever, and it's missing too many features to build a complete game with it.

Also, every game I made had that "cookie-cutter" feel, which I hate.

I've even toyed around with the idea of making a web-comic that pokes fun at the old A5 templates, called "Template Adventures: Starring C-Babe!"

Redeemer do it! It will be the greatest inside joke ever! I have that image of Cbabe burned into my brain. lol

I totally agree with you about the temps. They just made me feel good because I felt like I did something.

@TD well take your time dude and just enjoy it. I've moved into game writer and that's pretty much all I do these days because I don't suck too hard at it (well we'll find out soon I hope). I've moved on to other engines over the years too but that doesn't matter because I enjoyed my time with WED and all that good stuff.

Eh. I don't think I'm funny enough. The premise is good, but I don't know where I'd be able to take it.

Feel free to do it yourself, though. You're a writer, after all. laugh

Hmmm... I now has ideas... I still have my A6 key somewhere. Perhaps I could reinstall the engine and get the free model files, then arrange them in WED and take still screen shots. Perhaps I could cut them together and overdub the shots with voice overs and the template sounds... and finally upload to youtube!

I don't know about my humor either. I've only ever written black comedies and they tend to be very disturbing. We should collaborate!

lol I'd still love to poke fun at those stupid shooters we made years ago.

Here's mine. Laugh away!

EDIT: You know what would be even funnier? Machinama with the old temps. Damn I wish I had A5, the car scripts were hysterical!
