Hi! Currently, I use the Gamestudio A7 Free Edition although I do plan to upgrade to the commercial version in a while, is it possible to create a planet atmosphere in the free edition? Normally, I would use shaders but they aren't available in my version, so is there another way or an alternative shader plugin?

1 more question too :D, how would I create a 'star' in the engine, I know I'd set a high ambient level, but how about the solar flares etc?

Thanks, Matt.

I was wondering the same thing too.. my game involves a level in space and I just can't get the same effect of a 3D planet with an image... which means I need an atmosphere.

You could probably use particles with your star question, but I'm not so experienced with the engine yet so I'm not sure about that one.

for the stars, you could consider using a skybox, or sprites, like Jack said.

I think the atmosphere thing can be done with sprites too.
Just make a spherical sprite, just some bigger than the planet.
make it the color you want the atmosphere to be, and place it at the center of the planet. you will see it's borders, because it is bigger than the planet.
every frame you should then let the sprite face the camera.
I haven't tried it, but it will work, although I do not know if it will look good.

Hi! Thanks for the replies!

@Roel - I've not thought about using a sprite... I'll have to look into that!!

BTW, like what Jack said, how would I use particles? I've looked through the tutorials and can't seem to find any introduction on how to use particles..

Thanks!
Matt.

I've just looked in the manual and couldn't find many examples with particles... I'm assuminb you'd use an array of them? I'm not even sure if they can achieve what you want.. any experienced members know if particles would work?
