Hello

Is anybody using Digimi Game Developer Kit for DAZ Studio ?

It supplies

1)Decimator : a polys count reducer for DAZ studio
2)Texture atlas : It converts all the textures in a format suitable for game engines
3) FBX exporter

The decimator should be, in theory , much more efficient than equivalent tools, being taylor made for DAZ models

DAZ is, as far as I know, a user friendly animator tool

Moreover Carrara 8.0 Pro can now export FBX file
It can be of use to tweak models and animation

DAZ models can now be used for commercial project
thus all the models supplied by DAZ and Radiosity are now available even for commercial games

In conclusion , DAZ seem to offer a great suite for game develpers :
DAZ + Digimi + Carrara 8.0 Pro + Poser 8.0 + a library with hundreds models

Prices are super competitive

Did anybody give it a try ? comments?

I haven't used Carrara but I have given Daz Studio with the Game Developer Kit a try. I'll probably use it for my game characters, the human models really do look excellent. The big problem with character creators like this is their tendency to provide nude models. There can't be many games which need characters with bare feet, and the choice of footwear is pretty limited for example. All in all the models you can export aren't really game-ready.

The Decimator is pretty basic and disappointing, yes it reduces triangle count but it does a pretty messy job with no options for symmetry, keeping quad and things like that which I would have expected. I'm using Softimage for animating anyway so I'll do my poly reduction in there too which is far better.

Did you use decimator with Victoria and Michael ?

Decimator has been designed for these models only otherwise you get poor results
Michael and Victoria come with a ton of clothing, morphs, textures, props, poses, animations
You can really use them for any kind of games
