I have searched on the Forums and via Google without finding any similar problem described.

In World Editor, after adding any script via Map Properties, a significant number (12 or so) of the Dell Optiplex PCs I have tried or then display a blank black window when running the level. I have found the identical situation with downloaded sample/tutorial projects. 'Run Level' produces a black window. removing the script in Map Properties produces a viewable level. This has also happened once on a non-Dell with a much better graphics card.

There are no error messages appearing, either on the build or on running the level.

Every system I have tried has been running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3.

What am I missing? What could I try, or where should I look for previous discussions of this issue? Thank you.

Hi,

it does not *neccessarily* have something to do with hardware. Since everything seems to work fine as soon as you remove the script, it sounds to me as if you position your camera (via script) somewhere in your level where it is either extremely dark (no lights there) or inside another object. Check your script if it COULD fail and accidentally place the camera somewhere it is not supposed to be - especially check the cam code. If you reference the player entity there, check first whether the player pointer is set appropriately and VALID (therefore not pointing to NULL). I have a Dell PC here, too, and 3DGameStudio works just fine for me.

Hope this helps!

Greets,

Alan

Make sure your script does load your level.

I ran into the same problem and it turned out that since I was using the free version with C-lite, attempting to utilize .wdl files was my issue (WDL not supported in free version according to the error message I was getting).

Hmmm. It could be the latter- .wdl not supported as Laurentius works (I guess at this point I shouldn't mention that it seems to work in some games...)
