Hi, I was a very activer user back when A5 was out, now I'm going back to some random level making, but before I purchase A7 I wanted to try it out, so I installed the A7 Free version. But I am having a serious problem.

When I add a standard script to a map, and then build, run - it only shows black. Nothing on screen? I have tried with lights, sky cube, natural sun isn't black either, it's all .. black .. ?

I'm just using the template scripts, I havn't changed anything at all. But whenever I have added a script, I no longer can see anything when I run it, it just shows all black screen.

I am JUST trying to make a hollow room, with a movable object (moveable = player movable) but no matter what I do it seem to change into a hole bunch of scripts, 1st person scripts, eydda ydda.. geez, this was so easy in A5 frown - I guess a lot have changed.

I guess you are trying to use C-SCRIPT, or some other unsupported staff.

Its still just the same as in A5: When you get a black screen after adding a script, there are only two possibilities.

Either your script does not load the level. If you have no level and nothing else, all you have is a black screen.

Or it loads the level, but places the camera in a position where it sees nothing, like in a totally dark room or inside a wall. Then you also see only blackness.

Just look into your script. I advise anyway that you start with the tutorial, for learning some basics of how to work with levels and scripts.

I think it's a very stupid question, but:
have you put a light into the hollow room?
I ask this because the lighting system of a7 is different than the a5 system

the lighting system is practically the same like in A5...

just put the bulb inside the room and build the map

Well, in a5 the sun wasn't automatically set
if you placed no lamps, and no sun, you had a level without lightmaps
in a7 the sun has a color by default. That's what I meant
however, you are right.

Is there a solution to this? I too have the same issue: Build and Run in WED only to see a black screen. I've tried all of the template script files, all load black (prefer to try the walk through template). When I try running it without a script attached it loads up fine. Yes, I have light (sun and light). I've got directx 11, so low version's not a problem. I don't think I'm loading into a wall. I've looked at the wmb file, but all looks fine to my noob eyes.

Hi!

Sorry ....if this topic has been solved.

Build a HOLLOW cube and not a solid one.
Expand the hollow cube. (You should see double lines for all walls.)
Place entity inside the cube....check all sides in WED to
make sure the entity is inside the hollow cube.
Place a position (camera) inside (again check all sides or views)

Build and run.

ps. Don't ask how I know. wink

Hope this helps!
