But if you remove an entitiy and crate an other, this pointer may them point to the new entity. Or, worse, if you create a panel, the pointer may point to the panel, which you then try to access as an entity, leading to unpredictable behaviour and crashes.

am I missing something... can't we just set:

ent_remove(jet);
jet = NULL;

???
