Hi,

I just wanted to compile a level in WED when the following message showed up in the map compiler progress screen:

WARNING: Dropped some lightmap patches

Afterwards, Windows 7 tells me that "3D GameStudio Map Compiler stopped working" and just quits it - leaving me without a working WMB file.

So the question is: where does this warning come from? I'm facing it for the first time ever, also the level compiler never crushed before. I tried to compile several levels, all of them worked fine, just one specific level seems to have this issue. There really is nothing special about it, some blocks, some models and a sky cube. The level isn't too big either (min and max position values are all between 10000 and -10000), so can anybody tell me what's going on here and why my map compiler refuses to compile the map?

Greets,

Alan

The error "Dropped some lightmap patches" come up at some of my levels aswell, but that error dont stop my compiler, so it could be possible something else cause it to stop/crash.

but I really wanna know why the above mentioned error occurs and how to make it go away.

This warning can normally only occur when you attempt to produce an A6 map, not an A7 or A8 map. Make sure that you haven't tampered with the settings. If in doubt, use the default settings.

A6 maps are limited in lightmap size, and you should not use them anyway when you have A7.

Hi JCL,

glad to have you back from your holidays, I hope you enjoyed them.
As for the compiler crash: I never changed anything in the compiler options. I just tried to compile again by clicking on "Default settings" and choosing "BSP Map" afterwards (default seems to be "simple map" which I changed) and this time it worked fine - allthough I never changed anything in the settings. Strange, but it works now!

Thanks

Alan

If you have this problem again with the default settings, you can send us the wmp and we'll look into it. It should not happen with the default settings, only in A6 mode or when switching off tesselation.
