Hi
i have a problem:
all of my mdl use extern for textures but when i load my level i see this dialog box "Malfunction w1301 modelname can't open file" for some models not all.
when i use texture without extern dialog box dosen't appear.
why? how can i fix this?

Is the Texture File in the Same directory? Or maybe the Filename is too long?
File is Damaged?

all textures in same directory
file name:"Bill_0.mdl" and texture names are OK.
when i use engine preview engine show it OK.

this error is not for Error in model, i think this error is for engine that can't load all models and show error

Is Bill_1.mdl, Bill_2.mdl and Bill_3.mdl in the same folder like Bill_0.mdl ?
Maybe, the engine is looking for lod-models and cant find.

Ends the modelname with _0 must you have a model with _1, _2 and _3 at the end of the modelname.

Missing LODs shouldn't do any harm, at least it didn't *cough* years ago.

To separate the error:
Write a simple script, and save it in the directory of your scripts. don't forget to set the paths, and load an empty level and create the mdl. Add each used mdl until you get the error again.

in the first post i said that when i add texture to model without extern , all problem solved but i need have textures out of model

i think problem is in level_load function and when it try to load so many models with extern texture.

Hey...
Just a couple of notes...
1. The LOD files (..._1,2, or 3) do not need to be in the construction folder.
It all depends when and or at what distance you want to see the model.
Leave out ..._3 to not see at farthest distance.
Leave out ..._2 and ..._3 to not see at closer distance.
Leave out ..._1 and ..._2 and ..._3 to not see at even closer distance.

I can only assume that the engine is not, for some reason, able to find the extern textures.
In other words, are the actual texture files located in the proper directory?

yes all models and textures and script in same directory.

Maybe, there is something wrong with the names of the textures, and the engine doesn't notice that, when the textures are in the model included, because it doesn't need the name then.
I had a project recently exclusively build from models and terrains with extern textures and got no problems with that.

Two things...
Could you please tell us which version of 3dgs you are using?
And,
Is it possable that you can made a problem model and its textures available for us to have a look at and to import into our project for diagnistics...
