CSiS Bots

CSiS now features computer-controlled players. No more empty servers!

Video
Here's a video of a match against the new bots:
(Please excuse the bad sound, there is something wrong with my audio drivers. I'm looking into it...)
Video

Bots can:
  • Fire rockets and mines
  • Evade rockets
  • Accompany friends
  • Detect if a nearby friend's being shot at and if so, come to his aid.
  • Pursue enemies
  • Deploy space and asteroid turrets
  • Switch between ray guns and projectile guns
  • Hide until the health is refilled
  • Evade enemy fire
  • Buy and use asteroid turrets, space turrets and wingmen
  • Use every weapon and ship available except for the doomday rocket.
  • Earn and spend money

More screens...
...and the full story here.

In the Gallery , you can see the new asteroid detail mapping and hud-improvements that were the last step to a working team-death match mode. Team scores are now displayed on these panels with the team colors for getting a quick overview. So get your clans together, because next time you won't be facing your foe on your own...

Anyone who's interested in Pathfinding/Object avoidance: There's a gallery of the work in progress under the Gallery link above as well (scroll down a little). I'm thinking about making a post about the making of, how I got these bots to avoid asteroids in an environment in which they could not only go up and down but also left and right. If you would like to read such a post, just tell me. [edit:] Or, if the idea sucks, tell me also. Maybe it's a stupid idea...O.o

I'm looking forward to ganging up with you guys and kicking some bots' engine sections!

Comments and critisism are welcome. laugh Thanks to everyone who's answered my questions on these forums.

you should be running an official server 24/7, it's kind of lame to play lonely on your own server that nobody joins because the server list is empty all the time anyway.

edit: to add, besides my rant: reminds me of black prophecy which is currently in open beta, interesting how an indie team comes up with the same idea only on smaller scale (black prophecy is an MMOFPS) like a big competitor. Seems that not only the big guns know the recipe for success, but that the everyday indie developer do too!

Spectacular. I love it.

Thanks for the kind words laugh... I sure hope you guys are still as positive about this when we release the game and you find out that there's zero story to it, and possibly no singleplayer mode at all except for a tutorial level ^^.

Oh, and we will for sure. This is exactly what we're aiming for. If possible, it won't be one but two or 3 servers, running 2 or 3 different game modes. This is why we've made a dedicated server which doesn't start any directX window and can be controlled via telnet, for example.

This is one of the solids project made on GS. Even if I hate spaceshooter games, I need to say that this looks just great!

I wrote some suggestions for SILAS, having the same issue. (will have as any small Multiplayer game)

Tec comment:
your demo misses the d3dx9_42.dll
So people without gamestudio will not know how to run it.

Problem is that I can't develop and host a game at the same time, cause I need the ports for both. But with the next alpha and the dedicated server, I'll be able to run it on my old laptop, so I can have a server up and runnin and at the same time continue developing the game.

Weird. I had players play the demo (same download) who knew nothing about 3dgs. So they must've had it installed?

I dont understand this part really.
Seems that some Setups load the dll automatically (from the Windows folder?).
On mine, it always needs to be included, else it throws an error.

So its best to keep this file always in the folder anyhow.
