Hi,

I tried baking an Ambient Occlusion skin onto a model in wings 3d and was successful.
(Tools -> Ambient Occlusion -> UV Mapping -> Mark (all) edges for cut -> Unfold -> Create Texture -> Draw Options: 0: Background; 1: Draw Faces -> OK
After that I set the option "Vertex Colors" to "Set" in the skin material (ambi in the picture).

As you can see the baked AO looks well in wings, but after exporting the model into different formats (3ds, fbx, obj) and importing it into MED it is messed up (white lines between the faces)?

I tried to reduce the problem by scaling down the UV grid, but that looks strange too.
Can anyone tell me how to fix that? Thanks in advance!

Uh, nice, I didn't knew that Wings has this feature now - cool!

About your problem: You must adjust the texture drawing process. In the UV editor window, click create texture (rightclick) and use 1) draw background, 2) draw faces and 3) filter edge.

It looks now not so messed up, but not right even though... frown maybe you have to experiment with those values.

Nice model, by the way.

Thanks for your tip, it didn't solve the problem completely though, but it improved the result a lot.

You can use the model as you like since I made it just for practice.

Or just have a try with Blender. I use this tool for ~1 Year. Yes, it has a very complex interface at the first times but after some practising you learn to work with it ^^
If you have any questions about baking write me an PM.

Just to test it - have you tried to disable mipmapping?
Mipmapping means smaller texture means smaller UV-Map means lost precision.

no science involved

@rvL_eXile & Nowherebrain:
Thanks for the video, I'll try it with Blender.

@fogman:
I tried it, but it doesn't work frown

Edit: I tried it now with Blender but there are also those lines (but in black and smoother). I came to the conclusion
that the UV map is the problem. I'll try to skin it differently.

Yes. Get the same weird result here... Try to make an "Seamless UV Map" not a Lightmap UV like you have it now...

You are right. Is there a way to do this automatically? In Blender, MED or Wings?

There is no way to get a seamless uv-map.
You can't avoid seams.
Even in blender it is better to make the seams on your own and lay out the uvs afterwards.
When you build the house in blender, you easily can use the loop select to get the seams in a fast way.
