I own 3D Coat and Z Brush that allow that and even more lot of things.
The tool look like a lot for beginners when i see UVMApping in one Click !
Optmising UV Space with only auto Unwrapping is not the best solution, but perfect for beginners ... well ....

Well just my opinion; like fragmotion, it can find people interest in it.

Blender is free.

It`s 3D painting possibilities are in best case rudimentary though.

Projection painting != 3D painting

Why? Isn't it part of it? I mean, you paint on the 3D model.

Nope, you paint in Gimp, and in 2D. The data gets transfered to the mesh then. Painting directly onto the mesh is a completely different workflow.

anyway....my point is blenders tools are far superior in panting ON A 3D MODEL IN A 3D VIEWPORT....lol, and it is free....and tiles one more thing have you used painting in 2.56??? it is even better.

Hm, i had a second look at the Blender tools in 2.56. Seems that either i was blind when i tried it (2.53 or 2.54, can`t remember), or there are really more options than the last time i tried. Even a clone pencil is available now. Nice one
