Hi all!

Finally I completed the first release of MapBuilder. It is an easy to use outdoor level editor, you could read about in AUM-103, and at the forum earlier.

I think it is a big help for beginners, and for those who want to create simple game scenes within minutes.

An example game is also online with all the necessary Lite-C scripts.

The online documentation is only partially ready...

You can get it from MapBuilder homepage.

Have fun laugh

Your editor is getting better and better! What I'd like to see is a menu on the right side where you can pick items that you want to place on the map. So you can spare the buttons on the bottom. And of couse some terrain editing tools! laugh

I like the "Test" function a lot and that the editor runs stable!

One bug: CTRL+ALT+END does not close the editor, nor does ALT+F4.

Keep developing, this one is getting good!

thanx,

I will make a patch probably next week, I'm collecting bugs too... laugh

definitely, the most difficult and time consuming thing is a good GUI...

I'm always postponing dealing with terrain manipulation, because there are some really nice free tools for it, and I'm not sure it would worth the time and energy... I have collected some stuff for it, so maybe once I will do it... but I will make a L3DT+3DGS tutorial first, because I really like that.

Yeah do that! And think about using an SDK (c# or Delphi) for the UI, then integrate the GS window into the GUI. This workflow would be much simpler.

your ui improved a lot after the last release, it looks much better now!
I think terrain manipulation isn't that hard to implement, i had a simple procedural terrain editor for the 256kb contest, and it worked quite well...
Editing your terrain could be very useful in some cases.

My basic concept was to use only Lite-C to check level performance during design time, and also to learn 3DGS GUI making what would be useful for future projects.
I have some experience in Delphi, but as I know myself, using both Delphi and Lite-C would result in lot of bugs... but is it possible at all to use the Delphi SDK with Extra edition of 3DGS?

yes, basic terrain manipulation cannot be a big trouble, and not avoidable in some cases (like making proper river beds, or smoothing surface around buildings), but a good terrain maker is not so easy...
I'm interested in this topic, but has to collect more information, and make some decisions what I should and what I really could implement laugh
