I get message "Can't write: 'filename.$$w'", when I try to compile *.wmp in WED. This is an old model and it works otherwise ok in WED. All new *.wmp compiles just fine. So I quess there is somesort of corruption in the old model, but what, does anyone know?

I think the name have special characters like space, +-*/, !"§§$%%, etc.
Try to rename the model to a normal name like "myoldmodel.mdl"

filename.$$w looks like one of those temporary files to me, that WED creates while compiling. Ensure there is no such file with write protection and make sure you've the rights to write into that folder where your .wmb file is.

a few times I had similar problems when I created $$w by my application, and opened it in WED for further processing.

the solution was a stupid thing: to push again the compile button after the first resulted in an error message. funny, but worked
