Hey,

I am currently looking to buy a record player, though I have no
clue about it. (I just want to play some nice vinyls). Obviously
I have to get the player itself, plus an amplifier and some
speakers.

However, my main question, where do I go to ask people about
this? (Local tech stores are just as incompetent as I am and /g/
does not like to help when there is E3/WWDC)

Thanks - regards,
Rei

My advice:
Look for a cheap hifi turntable, for example one of the Technics SL series.
Look for a cheap amplifier from the 70s or 80s, for example from Pioneer.
Look for some cheap but excellent speakers from the 90s, for example from Elac.
(All on ebay)

If you need a new needle system for the turntable, I would recommend an Ortofon Omb 5 or 10.

With a little bit of luck you can get away with 150,- Euros (without a new needle system) and a really good sound.

If your budget is higher, then I can recommend you these speakers:

The value-for-money ratio is increadible.

-should have less power than the speakers
-must have a phono input

Example:
http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-172-8561.html

Generally it seems to me that the offers at hifi-forum are more honest. Search for amps that fit into your category (max. 120 watts R.M.S. Per channel at 4 Ohm & Phono input) and then feed the name of the amp to google. Mostly you'll end up in the hifi-forum were you get the information about the value of the amp.

Edit: Und lass Dich nicht von hohen Wattzahlen verrückt machen. Die Alesis speaker sind an 40 Watt schon verdammt laut.
