I wanted to ask if I have to purchase the Z code strategies if I am looking to learn the language and ideas from already working strategies.
I just installed the platform and went through the tutorials, but I noticed that I do not have the source code for the Z-strategies.

Source code for Zs is not available. However jcl assures us that it is based on what is described in the tutorials.

In case I want to purchase the commercial license am I going to receive a further explanation about backtesting / worse case scenarios etc. Just to have a plan in place to stop trading a strategy if it becomes inefficient.
Unfortunately I am still at the beginning with algo trading and I hope I can build this knowledge through Zorro.

You can ask here for explanations regardless if you purchase a license or not. What you mean is probably equity curve trading - there's an example in the manual under "Tips & Tricks". When looking for something particular in the manual, you can use the search function.

As jcl said. You will have enough of material to learn when going through the manual. It is really well written and covers most parts you need to know to go on with writing your own strategies.
