unity and some other engines provide a much more modern design approach, beside better marketing, faster development, and supports more operating systems. its free version has a different feature set from gamestudio, but enough for a lot of games.
gamestudio is fine for game development, especially if you are a beginner (imo the easiest engine to start with), but only for pc, and still using directx9. moreover, you have to create your own tools for more complex games as the incuded ones are quite old, and imo need commercial licence supporting shaders for an acceptable quality.
I don't think gamestudio can be studied in any school, but maybe I'm wrong...
yes, but much less than unity, thus much more difficult to find a job.

in my opinion as a game studio user; First reason; I believe I answered this often enough, but anyway: A Gamestudio standard version for Mac, Linux, and consoles was not planned, is not planned, and most likely won't be ever planned, for the simple reason that we see no sufficient market and demand for such a version. Besides, I hate consoles . another; - People don`t want to use an engine with unknown future. for example we still don't know what is the plan for A9. No. actually we don't know is there any plan for A9.
- Development is really slow. I found really important bug four months ago and still no update. (i found a workaround for A7. I don't need an uptade but it doesn't matter)
- There's something called conitec time. it's not funny, because it's real.
I love Game Studio. It's really good & powerful engine. Useful for indie developers. But development is not good anymore. Many users switched to unity. maybe i will too. i don't wanna (and i'm not sure can i handle unity) but i'm worry about Game Studio's future. Actually i don't know is there a future for Game Studio. I'd like to talk about it more, but my english is not good.

It's dead. A8 would have been good when A6 was released. If you can't make the game you want with the current version then best to keep looking.
I do think it is the easiest engine too learn how to code with and even build levels, however it is just a hobby engine. Talent can make some interesting games.
Unity3d however has terrible 2d support (unless they have changed that in the last 2 years. When I wanted to make a 2d games that needed animation it was quite a pain. I invited a method but it was annoying.
