I recall that when I first became a customer, I bought a version of 3DGS that had the old "World Definition Language" , and which had a World Editor where some of the menu items displayed in a quirky way. At the time it was the Acknex A4 engine. But I would like to know, under what name this engine existed when Conitec bought it as start-up capital?

I understand and appreciate that Conitec has rewritten the engine and all the editors since then, but that very early this was also the platform for the first Quake versions. The reason I'm asking is the fact that, as surreal as it sounds, I might one day be quizzed about what kind of more primitive resources existed before 3DGS came out. I heard somehwre that there was even a ?geek acronym? for this earlier engine, which some people might recognize.

Thank you kindly in advance.
Dirk

Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.

acknex-2 was.. but JCLs history goes back far as the original DOS ACK and writting the original windows port of ACK. so it was already in Conitecs hands well before the engine was re wrote for 3D poly meshs etc.

So i wouldn't realy call it inherited, just finaly obtained the legal rights to it.
