Hey guys I have had an ongoing problem with crashes while building levels.
before I go on here are my specs:
XP home
P4 3.2
1 gb of ram
radeon 9800 pro
creative sb audigy 2 zs
asus p4p800
linksys instant wireless b pci adapter
sony dvdrw dru-530a
maxtor 6Y200P0
gamestudio version:
6.31.4 comm

Anyways, whenever I try to build a level that has even a little complexity
It freezes on the generating lightmaps stage, And I have ran my task manager while building and it says Im at 50% CPU usage. But my comp will just freeze and all I can do Is reboot it. This was happening kinda often so I decided a clean install of windows might fix it so i formated my HD and reinstalled windows and all the drivers and it is doing it again.

I am using sp1 right now but before the reinstall I was using sp2

Any ideas(I searched the forums and could not find anyhing)

Btw, it did the same thing when I just had the demo a month ago.

If it's indeed a real crash, and not just a long building time, run a memory test program over your system. Crashes during memory-stressing processes like Gamestudio's level building are most likely caused by a faulty memory chip in your system.

Its definently a crash because Ive let it sit for 2 days and nothing and
the blinking dot next to the progress bar stops which never used to happen even on really long build times. Im gonna try reinstalling my memory chips see if that helps...

I don't see how reinstalling your memory chips could help. Get a hardware test program, like Norton Diagnostics or similar, and run an extensive memory test overnight. Such programs are likely to find memory faults.

no, because this is caused by broken HARDWARE.

Hi,
as far as I'm concerned, this could as well be a hyperhtreading issue. If your P4 does have HT, try switching it off and rebuild the map. I remember other users having problems with building with HT enabled, and there are only the two possibilities a)switch HT off or b) set the number of CPUs in the compiler window to "2" (but this will only work in some cases, better try a).
Hope that helps

Okay I will try the hyper-threading option, And as far as tests I ran Norton Diagnostics, something called "BurnInTest", and a program called "FreshDiagnose" and they all said there was nothing wrong.

Thanks for your help guys

I turned HT off but the same thing happens, The only difference is the taskmanager says im using 99 to 100 percent cpu instead of 50%. Sometimes it does work, because I succefully built it once then I tried it again but the symtoms came back, so far its 1 in 5 that the build completes without my PC locking up or restarting. Any other ideas?

If I can remember from what one other user has mentioned, it's one of those tessellate flat, tessellate shaded, etc. items on the map compiler. Try setting each of them to the highest possible setting. If one of them went below 80, I don't remember which one, the map compiler would freeze. I've had the same troubles when I minimized all three of them (thinking that it would speed up the compilation).
