hi,

The 3dgs main page says the commercial edition's physics engine supports 1 object. What exactlty does that imply ?

thanks

That only one entity can use the abilty of the physics engine in Gamestudio.

But isnn't that restrictive ? Anyway this is only if you use 3dgs's physics engine. Is there any such restricion if you use Newton ?

thanks again

Yes,

Thats the limitation of the Commercial edition + many other features. Conitec is trying to make you buy the professional edition because it has less limitations like any other buissines would.

There are no restrictions with newton. The only thing is it is hard to get support for it because their forum is full of people who use C++ and Delphi with Newton and Newton is hard to implement. Thats why I suggested on making a Newton forum here.

There is no limit on Newton. Newton is a 3rd party plugin and thus, has nothing to do with A6's physics engine. This is not a restrictive thing (1 physcis object). You can have multiple objects with physcis, but only one can be active at any time. So you could have a door that uses physics, and a barrel that also uses them. When the player is close to the door, the door's physics are enabled. When the player is further away from the door, its physics are turned off. When the player gets close to the barrel, the barrel's physics are turned on and then when the player is out of sight, the physics are turned off.

Isn't it weird that there is a restriction on the number of physics objects? 3dgs is using the ODE physics engine ( link ). That is an open source physics engine, you could use it for free. So why is there the restriction on the number of physics objects?
Is it posible to integrate the ODE engine in 3dgs commercial so you can use more physic objects?
Grtz, Sjoerd

from what I know , ODE is way tougher than Newton to integrate into any sort of game engine - and I guess 3dgs is right in having that restriction coz although the physics engine is open source the integration would have taken a _lot_ of effort. Fair enough, IMHO.

and thanks for the answers everyone !

Yes, using the SDK that could be done.

i've always thought the one object limit to be silly.. one object no better than zero.. they should either let you have more objects or take out physics from the commercial version. but frankly, physics are a standard part of a game engine these days, so i think that they should be implemented fully in the commercial version of A7.

hmm, there is a lot that can be done with one physic object (at a time, dont forget) and if you want more either upgrade or take newton
