@FeiHongJr,
Here is an overview for using a MP3 - license:
http://www.mp3licensing.com/royalty/index.htmlextract:
(game) mp3 - US$ 2 500.00 per title
(PC software applications) mp decoder - US$ 0.75 per unit or US$ 50 000.00 - US$ 60 000.00 one-time paid-up
(PC software applications) mp encoder/codec - US$ 2.50 - US$ 5.00 per unit
so it is quiet expensive. BUT! (there is a big one
): they say on
http://www.mp3licensing.com/royalty/games.html about game distributions: "Note: No license fees are due if less than 5 000 copies of a particular game title are distributed."
on the developers FAQ page (http://www.mp3licensing.com/help/developer.html#1) are serious questions concerning this. The core of alle statements are: YES YOU NEED A LICENSE!
but there is this small exception for games so you can be sure that you are on the safe side. BUT (another great one
): they are not talking about selled units, but of distributed units. So... it is quite complicated.
I agree to use ogg, cause it is free and you have to pay no license fees.
