this is a small test of fabric texture creation.

The goal is to find a good way to make lifelike fabrics (in this case the final curtain)

the development borders are a 512/512 repeatable texture.

The result is that you can use whatever drops out of this testathron as textures for your projects. (while most will now scream out and say :"hell ya, finaly some so desperately needed fabrics. I didnt knew how i could live without them so long"....i may still add the fact that they are free )

I found out that making things that way is excellent to understand the natural layout of textures and the way of photoshoping them onto the screen.

here are the first basic ones:

made: simple painting and adding structure to the result
result: pretty dull and lousy

cheers

You probably already know this, but, it's all about dodge and burn.

Dead?? ... I didn't even know they were sick!

Seriously though... nice work on the fabrics. I particularly like the addition of the 'wrinkles' in the second set. Keep it up.

Can I play?

Seriously, I hate cloth and fabric. It's one of those things I'm not good at but you inspired me to give it another shot.

It's a freebie for the community if anyone likes it.

Wow, thank you both.

Sempronius: How did you do these realistic looking folds. That looks like you have spent a lot of work to them.

Best regards,
Frank

To be honest, It took me about 30min, and, I don't remember exactly.. I know, I could shoot myself.

It involved some gradient fills, lighting render filter, sandstone texturizer, alpha channel, multiple layers set to different layer types... i dunno, I was just screwing around throwing in everything I could think of.

I'm off to see if I can recreate it.

Wow, that sounds good. You must be a very talented and experienced texture artist.

lol... that made me laugh.

ok, last one 'cus I don't want to hijack this thread. I think I've kinda got this figured out.

some reflected gradient, polar coordinates, lighting render with alpha channel, and a few other things here and there. this one is kinda sloppy.
