Completely functional free version of UNFOLD3D. Automatic unfolding Maximum number of triangles limited to 1000 - not extremely usefull, but.... splitting the model into groups could do the job

Jeez, people are crazy. I use Ultimate Unwrap and it does a very decent job
The price is too high and like you said, with unwrap 3D this is already easy 3DSMAX and some other tools already do very well Unwrapping with lot of options.
And it exists plugins to help unwraping like Textures Layers (for 3DSMAX) is only 295 $
I own max 7.5 - and do alot of uv work. What is different about unfold is that it uses algorythms to create distortion free mapping - more useful for high poly stuff i guess - and yes should have been in the tools section - maybe admin can move it.
