torque´s light system is very outdated. to produce coloured light, you need to buy a special lighting pack. and: the soft torque shadows don´t work well indoors. it just looks as if there´s no lighting and shadow at all.
furthermore, the huge (unlimited) terrain thingy in the demo is a trick. the terrain consists of regular patterns that are repeated in a certain distance. so you do not see one big terrain, but seamless repeating parts. you cannot create a game with this. imagine a base in a certain area that has 4 replicas in all directions ^^
definitely, there are better lighting systems than a6, but torque or even unreal do NOT belong to it.

I have the same thing too. However, I get a crash when I add shadows to my buildings. Not one of those script error crashes (like "crash in some_function"), but one of those illegal operation notices (invalid page fault, I think). For the smaller objects, the platforms, the effect can be clearly seen and the disappearing act seems to be with me as well. Get the camera in a certain position even and they disappear. It's not just the camera angle, it's the position that matters as part of it. All I have is the sun angle set, but the Sun isn't turned on (as it destroys the textures).

I also remembered something weird. If you moved the camera to a position right under the object (or in the shadow?), the view darkens to about half as bright. When you turn the camera from within here, the darkening and lightening is odd and unnatural. If you're in a shadow, the whole area doesn't darken. A shadow is where less light is received compared to the surroundings. It makes little sense.
