When I turn the deep fog on for my game on a new computer I just got, well, there isn't any. It works just fine on my older laptop, though. I'm guessing it's a graphics card issue, but should I be looking at other settings before going out and upgrading the graphics card? Here's the new computer's specs:

E-machine
AMD Athlon 64, 3500+ processor
ATI Radeon Express 200
1G RAM
2.2 GHz
512 kb L2 cache
200 Gig hard drive

Thanks for any suggestions,
Spaz

I have Nvidia. When i try latest drivers, my fog disapears and i had some errors in rendering... So i reinstall old drivers.
May be with your ATI you have same problem, try latest drivers or not so fresh

Wow, so the newer drivers can actually make things worse? That's scarry. I don't have any other drivers for this card since the machine is brand new. Hope I can find them on the web. Thanks for the response, Lion_TS. Anybody else run into this kind of problem?

actually can (especially if you use something like Detonator or alike to boost your vcard). Driver writers are people like me and you (and workers, where your PC was assembled and preinstalled, too)

Try changing the rendering mode :
d3d_transform = off; // old A5 vertex+lightning(+fog) mode (T&L engine)
d3d_transform = on; // new A6 rendering mode (T&L DirectX)
Maybe your old hardware wasn't good enough for A6mode. A6 uses new fog parameters like view.fog_start and view.fog_end (+fog_color).

Well, I must be dumber than I thought, but I can't find a driver for my card even at the ATI site. Are any of you using that same graphics card? Have you noticed the same problem?

g0m0, I'll try the d3d_transform setting. Thanks.

The producer of your machine has got normally
a list of all drivers in their homepage
for each specific Model.
You might try there.

Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the video card you have. It's been 6 or 7 years since I've last used a laptop computer. However, two things is all I can think of:

1. Try installing a game that you know has fog. If the game has fog, then there's something weird going on. If it doesn't, it's likely a video card issue.
2. If the item above fails, contact ATI through customer support to see if they can help. Since you're in the USA, you could consider calling them as well (although they may have international numbers to call).

Other than this, I don't have any other option.

Edit: Or, you could also contact the place where you got your computer from. You seem to have a very nice computer (in terms of specs anyway).

Damocles & Ulillillia (man, I always have to count how many l's I'm using when I write that),
Thanks for the ideas. Don't know why I hadn't thought of trying another game or checking with the computer manufacturer.

Well, still waiting to hear back from the computer manufacturer (no info on their web site), but i did try another game, and the fog worked just fine with it. So weird that it would work fine on one computer but not another and the problem not be the video card.
