hi,

nothing special, i just tested the maya 7 surface sampler to generate normalmaps and it worked pretty good (after some hours of desperation )

a couch model, crappy colorskin and normalmap, do whatever you want with it:

Nice Couch!
How do you go about making normal maps for these skin textures?

So how do you see the normal map effect in the engine, do you have a shader script to go with it?

Hey Christoph I think that is pretty good. It looks great from far off. I mean obviously for client work, this would not be acceptable due to the quality standards that clients might require but, I looked at the model in the viewport and was amazed at how good it looks. It's not utter crap. It's plain and simple but still looks good. Just shows you don't have to spend days on something then . I think I'll have a go and doing some quick models sometime instead of spending weeks on one because I've never made a simple model before like this. It will be a good test to see how it turns out.

Thanks .

allright, thx guys^^

yeah, the model is not good enough for some client work, the skin has far to less detail.

the normalmap is not made out of a texture, but out of a 2000 polygon high poly version of the model.
i needed the surface sampler to render a normalmap for a gamecharacter i'm currently working on in my new project, so this was some try and error^^

EDIT: oh, yes, you need a normalmapping shader to see it in the engine.

EDIT EDIT:

AND AS A GREAT SPECIAL ADDITION, YOU CAN SEE ME WORKING ON SOME STUFF IN THIS BEAUTIFUL PICTURE *g*:
