Can 3DGStudio A6 create 2D game that is able to run on computer without 3D hardware card? For example, I want to put a text or a picture / sprite into the monitor and there is no any 3D object, how can 3DGStudio do it? Some notebook computers don't have 3D hardware card.

Thanks

Yes, if in the pc is no 3d video card, the engine starts without real(directX can make a virtual 3d hardware) 3d hardware. So after it's not good to show any 3d scenes. But for this, DirectX9.0c MUST be installed on your pc. You can install it on win 98se or higher.

From all my experiences with this..... NO

Because 75% of the time A6's weak mode just dosn't work and only
older Version such as A5 could run on such a computer.

Because simply A5 didn't care about your hardware it used software
rendering. A6 uses hardware rendering all the way.

I have allways thought for this very reason leaving
Software Rendering out was bad
It would have been better to have it as a default.

Well good Luck...

You're wrong TeutonicDarkness, I asked before two/three days conitec about that. But this thread is only in german. Just install DirectX9.0c on your pc and then you can run the game without 3d hardware. The 3d scenes will be also rendered, but very low. So you can only make 2d games, you can show panels + texts,....

Edit: You're also right TeutonicDarkness, a6 has no sofware renderer anymore. Before DX9.0c appears, you couldn't run games without a video card. But with DX9.0c you can run the game without 3d hardware.

I have just tested this code on an old Fujitsu notebook computer which doesn't have 3D hardware. The OS is Windows ME with DirectX9.0c installed and the video chip is MagicMedia with memory 2MB. But I got two error messages consecutively "Can't find any 3D hardware", then "Can't use reference renderer", then the screen went blank. I also have tested with command line -s3d and I got one message "Can't use reference renderer" then the screen also went blank.

function main()
{
d3d_transform = off; // to force A5 mode but can't run
// d3d_transform = on; A6 mode also can't run

draw_text("Hello, 10, 10, vector(255,0,0));
}

You can run 2D games without 3d hardware, but you can't run 3d games without 3d hardware. This is very simple. So look, if this is a 3d game.

The above code is a 2D game that just displays a text "Hello" in a screen. Why do you beegee think this is a 3D game?

I think JCL said they were going to have a mode that would let it go back to A5, but he said that would be done after 6.4 was finished. Hope they get that done soon as I would love to do my 2d game with 3dgs as it would be much quicker then making my own 2d engine, which I'm doing to an extent now.

Have you tested this personally?

The reason I ask is I have

Now If you at least have a low grade 3D card it will run
as said in low mode.

However After testing on 5 different systems with no card
the Anwser is no ...
Weak mode is Virtually useless.

Also On My Test Systems I can run a few other 3D Games
( As long as they don't use shaders)
just not any A6.

Yes I think I they would bring back Software Rendereing
as an option I would full switch to A6 instead
of often using the A5 Engine.

( I say that after testing public Beta ).
