Hey im looking to earn a little bit of cash. im pretty good with 3dgs level design and thought maybe doing some paid work but just want to get other peoples opinions whether its worth it or not. The time you spend on a level. whatare people willing to pay. on average. include how big the level will be and stuff and how much youd pay if you were doing it.

from my beliefs you should enjoy doing it first. if money comes around than you have a point to be happy about.

as it is so complex and according to the quality and quantity of a level, well, there is no way to generally put a price tag.

How much do you think you are worth? Are you skilled? Is 3dgs the only Level Design you do know? Do you use other Level Editors besides Wed? A few questions you may ask yourself.

Prices can be determined on the skill you may have. If you need to know what it is worth give me a e-mail over at Level_Designers(at)lddreams.com and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. I do not plan to hire anyone by the nature of this post. I am just posting I can tell how much it is worth if you are skilled to be a Level Designer.

I would love to be paid full-time to do Level Design but to tell you the truth if money was the only motivating factor, then I would have quit a long time ago. If your skills are exceptional and or very good, then you should be able to find some work somewhere online even if its not through this forum. Hope you find something soon... GS out.

This applies less to level design and more to gameart in general but, I think its definitely worth, just not in the sense that you mean.
I find modelling fun, and its personally satisfying for me to be able to take something in my head and bring it out so that others can see. Money or building a portfolio isn't a motivating factor for how much work I do on a personal daily basis, its simply about how much fun I'm having.
Now, when I get a job at a company doing this, things will change and I'll likely be working just as much out of love as for the paycheck at the end of the week, but until then . . .

Anyway, right now in the freelancing community people who will actually pay you for your work are generally a minority, and a small one. So if you just want the money, you'd be better off finding another field because checks will often be small and far between.
This doesn't mean that you have to give away your free time and skill to some project run by a person who has no idea what they're doing to validate your love for art and games. Just practice everyday, keep looking for work or reliable looking projects to join and hop on. And make sure you have a part-time job in the background keeping the lights on and food in the fridge somewhere in the background. ^^

While this is an interesting topic, I cannot see how it fits in the forum of Jobs Offered as an actual "job" is not being offered. Perhaps one of the moderators should move this to a more appropriate place.

Can you actually do level design? Are you worth anything as a level designer? Let's see your portfolio.

What are your opinions about level design? If I were to ask you whether an enemy should look like it what it does or look like what it is, how would you respond? How many levels in a game should be secret? Should a player be able to take a random hit? Should you place all areas with the same theme one after the other or mix them up? What do you know?

If you are just looking for cash, then get a job at MacDonalds. They'll give you cash. Even better, go to university and get yourself qualified for a real job just in case you can't do the fun thing.
