I think that book is realy good and not for (only) newbies. I think I know every trick in WED and what to do to make good frame rates and build times. Thatīs no real problem. But good level design is the most difficult thing in game creation.
Itīs realy a pain to have a set of phototextures and adding a handdrawn texture to them. Even if you have multiply phototextures they wonīt fit to each other, because the different lightning and colors. Or using colored light, fog, sunlight and ambient... I have to compile my level X times to get something like a useful lightning.

I think that book is realy needed if it covers a lot of design-problem-solutions.

And about the newbie stuff in the book: Thatīs in every book. I mean to make the book perfect it should be complete. Itīs realy painful, if you get stuck in higher areas because some basic knowledge is missing.


I guess it will be in PDF or that Windows HELP file format (like the 3DGS manual).
I think the WindowsHelpFile has much better Searchfunktion. But I am not sure if you will add a search funktion.

And how I will be able to buy the book? Paypal?

I would be greatly interested in reading this! I'm stuck building the levels on my team so I need to learn everything I can. However I don't have time to preview it now.

I lso look forward to the MED. A decent MED tutorial is hard to find. Also I hope you have some tutorials on Milkshape and GMAX.

Great idea Dan

Torque engine has already some 3 good books , from simple game programming
to advanced, giving 3DGS opportunity to have one can only
bring it up and make it more popular.

Your parts are very interesting , but why not waiting for octree and it's lightmapper , tutorials of levels made of models would be more up to date for
today techniques and games.

the other parts skinning, texturing, modeling and lighting ,i thinks will be
a real guide for lot of people , caus a lot use non homogenous colors and light
and we see lot of time , bright objects with very dark textured ones in scenes
...
low/medium modeling, texture creation like metal , wood, good grass patterns
can only enhance 3DGS users creations.

The FREE WED manual portion of the book should be released today. I have inserted all the screen shots and am in the process of tidying things up. I believe the initial release will simply be a PDF file since that is the fastest and easiest way to get the job done at the moment. I will keep you posted and post a link to the release in its own thread.
