Ok i did a search for this but i couldnt really find any threads on the subject so ill just ask here (I hope this is the right forum to post this quesiton in):

When adding a path in the level editor, how do i add a node to the path wihtout having it appear at the level origin?

I notice we can do open paths now in 6.31 which i think is awesome! (im going to have to *completly* rewrite all my pathing code from the ground up, *grumble* but great job guys! =D) However the only way i have found to add a node to a path in 6.31 is to go into vertex move mode, then click somewhere not on the path, and a new node will appear at the level origin. While i can work with this, its going to make adding paths a real pain in the keester on the outer edges of my level.

Okay, tried holding down the shift key, the ctrl key, and the alt key, and various combinations, and no matter which one, when i left click to add a node, the new node appears at the level origin and not where i clicked. is this a bug? am i just being *totally* retarded? I'm prolly the only person i know who has this much trouble with the simple stuff LOL.

nope your not. If I rememer right I had the same issues awhile back. Have you tried updating to the new engine. 6.4.... Thats what I tried it in before posting to make sure I remembered how to do it. Tho as I said earlier I believe it was suppose to be done the same way in 6.31... could possibly be a bug but I do know that it works in 6.4 with no problems.

im avoiding upgrading to 6.4 for as long as i can. ive seen posts on here of people having some...interesting...problems with 6.4. Plus i know for a fact the upgrade will break all my scripts (again) and ill have to re-trouble shot like 10,000 lines of code all over again. I just got done doing that for the upgrade to 6.31. i want to stick to one version of the engine long enough to actually get at least one game out. Guess ill just live with the issue. Not like i plan to use this type of pathing in the long run, im only using it now because i can get it done quicker and easier than any other method. after this game im going to use another pathing method anyways.

Thanks for the time and advice.

Hi Caermundh,
I, like you, am avoiding 6.4 for now.
I did a quick review of paths in 6.31
Object->add path does indeed put the path at the origin of the view window. But to add nodes, go into the vertex move mode. You can then add nodes where ever you want. Just hold down control, left-click on the path box and then drag the node to where you want and left-click again.
If this does not work, it is not a bug with 6.31 --- maybe you need to reinstall.
Hope this works.
Regards,

Jim

Just a guess (I'm speed reading these topics right now), this is a known 6.31 path bug. There is a fix, use GXL2DX8A. (and this).

If you are going to stick with 6.31, you really need to get use to using the forum search funtion.
