Hi there , I got high polygon model that I'm using as a terrain , the problem is that in MED the ( convert to terrain ) option is not enabled , so any body know why ?
by the way , can i use a model (mdl) file as a terrain ? i mean dose the mdl file deffer from the hmp file in collegen detection or so ?

MDL terrains provide numerous advantages. HMP terrains are very limited. Just consider why:
1. Freedom of shape. You don't have to restrict yourself to the grid-shape. Place the vertices anywhere and build the faces however you want. This even means having underground tunnels, overhanging cliffs, and other landscape designs HMP doesn't even allow. 2. Freedom of texturing. HMP terrains use one single, set texture size and you can't manipulate anything. MDL terrains support multiple textures, tiling textures, and different projections (like a front and back mapping instead of a top mapping only). 3. Can be faster to render. When you have unseen areas (like the top of a cliff or the floor of a building you can't go in), HMP requires that this unseen area be rendered which slows down the frame rate. Removing this, of which MDL terrains provide, can help speed up the rendering. For flat/level areas, HMP's just waste vertices and polygons for rendering them when you could just use larger polygons with MDL terrains.
There are some downsides though. 1. It takes considerably longer to make, likely due to the lack of useful tools like HMP terrains have. 2. Collision is a bit trickier to get working properly, but once figured out, this no longer applies and a one-time-only disadvantage.
Overall, the main advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I suggest that use MDL terrains.

Unfortunately, I haven't done anything with collision yet so I don't even know how to do it. All I know is that c_move is used with the my.polygon flag being set to on. I think there were other things that needed to be done, but I don't recall. I'm just copying what I read from others' replies to earlier such questions. Section 3.2 here explains why I'm not doing anything with 3D to really help with this.
