I finally graduated from not being able to import Poser objects into anything to being able to export from Poser to 3DS, including textures. Give me a cookie, I guess.
But, even though my 3ds files now have textures attached, the 3DGS model editor still doesn't take it from them (in the skin editor, the textures in the 3ds files don't show). Anybody know how would I get the textures from a 3DS file into the MDL?

Thanks,
-- CM

well first, save them to the same location as the model exported. second, make sure they are compliant (a format that med recognises, and sized appropriately RTM). third, make sure the exporter did not rename the files. If this does not work you may just need to search for the files manually through the materials window.

Everybody Poops.
here are some tutorials I made.

Maybe I'm going about this in the wrong way:
If everything is perfect (poly count is good, textures were made from compatible image types, the game Gods are in a good mood), should the skin editor automatically be populated with the textures in the 3ds files when the 3ds file is populated?
Or, do I have to track down the 478328947329847329847 texture files and manually add them somehow?

Surely I'm not the first person to come across this problem?

make sure poser is not saving the texture's in .jpg which mostly it does you need to convert those maps to a .bmp file I think I am not sure I don't think poser deals with .tga or those formates, export the non textured model and use a tool called 3d converter or any tool you know that does a u-v mapping type of thing the one I gave you is a formate converter and in the newest version the full version you can u-v map stuff in., make sure the model is in .3ds format and, the reason you have to use a 3rd-party tool to do this is becuse poser complies the 3d model in .3ds in it's own way meaning that the scripts only compile in .jpg so if you convert the textures into .bmp it dosent' find it nor reads it, so it will just compile the model. The main idea is to u-v mapp the model that can handel the format of the images and 3ds. this is the only way to get around it and using it in your game.

How ever I don't think your aloud to use it for game use, they claim in the user right's it's only for graphical webpage art ect.

Good luck.

your using poser right?? well you need a free or at least a valid copy of a u-v mapper what poser does it when you export your model to different formats poser complies your 3d model using their textures or if you even use your own it has to be in .jpg formate in order to export the model and it's textures the script in poser look's for a filename with .jpg to export so if you used .bmp or .tga or what ever texture formate you used in poser it wont get compiled with the model, in order to get around this you need a uv-mapper that can import textures in .jpg and can import a poser model then conver each texture to .bmp or any you like that is capable with med and convert the textures and then change the sorce textures from.jpg to your formate you saved in either .bmp or what ever then save the model in any formate mostly .3ds and import it in med this is the only way it can be done becuse poser only allows to save textures in .jpg even if you used a .bmp textuer in poser and assigned it to the model it's how they uvmap it which is in .jpg formate their for when put in med you will get the 3d model their but no textures becuse it's in .jpg and med dosen't support that format. even in high poly counts I imported it in med and it worked but no texure but I did have high count poly in that model but it took a long time to load. I am still looking for a uvmapper or at leat a converter from poser to 3ds a proper one. You can also used med to skin the model that's another way but if you have many textures like for the mouth and eyes ect meaning a high detailed model it then becomes hard to skin in med which I would suggest to get a converter or a uvmapper this is a real pain but that's what needs to be done to import poser models into med.
