When I convert a big terrain into a model there are a lot of vertices missing. Is there a limit on the number of vertices to be used in a model? I can't find anything about this in the manual. I tried to search with limits and vertices, no luck. Does anybody knows the answere?

Yes. According to this old thread thereīs a directX limit of 65.535 vertices per model.
Practically I also had problems, when converting large terrains. My favorite terrain size is 257*257 vertices. This is 66049 vertices. Apparently too much.
I think even before the limit a huge model file might cause slowdowns. Terrains can handle this better, because they get "chunked" - separated in multiple pieces, that maybe work better in the pipeline than one large file. I read somewhere, that itīs unwise to use too large model files.
I see, thanks. The problem is that I need a gap in the terrain and that can only when it is a model, so I think I am going to make a terrain out of several models and fit them together.
