Ok, im having the same problem as you guys.
The model imports facing downwards and when i hit the animate button he becomes in its right place.
I tried using the FBX importers jcl posted a couple posts back. and its still the same.
OK. now the fun part.
I tried importing the same fbx in gs 7.0 (med 6.86) and it worked fine but in a diferent way. I.e. THe model is imported and the first frame of the animation is the default position of the model.

is there a way to change the pivote point of the model?
i dont want the pivot point to be at the feet, i want them to come up, to where the pivot is in 3d studio max which is at the bottow of the torso. more or less

the origin is the pivot point, just move the model so that the origin is in the point you want to pivot around.

Ok, this idea isnt working.
Because ok. i changed the pivot of the bones and model to where i wanted it, but i just saw now, that the model is animated but the bones dont move within the model.

ok, here's an idea that worth a shot!

in max, copy frame 1, and duplicate it to the 2nd frame (creating a new frame inbetween the current frame 1 and 2).
so you have 2 frames 1, before the animation starts.

now, export, and inside MED, remove the first frame completely.
that might work.

That would be a nice idea. The problem is that the FBX importer from med 6.86 doesnt animate the bones.
The model is imported and so is the bones. but the bones dont animate. only the model.
