This is an odd one. If you are familiar with Nintendo DS games like Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk: Room 215, then you'll know what to expect from this engine. It is specifically created with these types of games in mind. It has a templates system and uses Python for scripting.

Quote:

Welcome to the Ren'Py home page. Ren'Py is an engine that supports the creation of visual novels and dating sims, forms of computer-mediated storytelling. It supports a movie script-like syntax that makes creating simple games easy, while still being customizable and extensible by advanced creators. With no additional work by the game-maker, it supports features expected of all visual novels, like loading, saving, preferences, and rollback. Ren'Py is supported on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux x86, and can be made to run on other platforms.

Ren'Py is open-source software, and is free to use for commercial and non-commercial purposes. It does not require you to open-source your game.

I discovered there's a whole niche market for this style of play, and there are multiple engines out there. It's especially big in Japan. I've seen these types of games for a long time, but I never knew the appropriate term (Visual Novel). The DS games I mentioned fit this category, although they have an inventory and puzzles which places them more into the adventure category. So, I suppose they are Visual Novel Adventures. Ren'Py can handle inventory, however it must be scripted given the engine isn't designed for it and features no hardcoded equivalent.

Of course itīs big in japan. The market is full with these damn games. I hate them. Ohh... you donīt believe how much I hate these text "games". Well, I donīt think that stuff is anything what I can call a game. This stuff is so damn awful. I feel so bad when when using this stuff (yes, I canīt write "played" and I canīt write "game" in the same sentence with that material).

You now that feeling when you can feel the wasted time of you life?

Hahaha , Exciter you should be glad with the Japanese gamemarket and developers though. Probably especiallly with developers like Illusion's Jinkou Shoujo 2 and Jinkou Shoujo 3 and what more .

Edit: Yeah, I know dlsite. You were right my second sentence doesn't make much sense indeed perhaps, those particulars games are not really real games. However at least both Japanese politics and Japanese developers don't mind making/having those kind of games around and stuff ... the censorship is usually close to none-existing, which was my main point,

Cheers

I dont understand your sentence. Well I am not sure if I dont understand it.

Anyway, to make my point more clear. I of course love XXX games. But I donīt like them all. Actually I think most of them are crap, because they are more xxx as game.

I know alot japanese XXX games, and some are of pretty good quality XXX wise. But they are censored and they are not realy games. Of course I know illusion. And even if they make nice games, I still know better xxx "games" from japan (you know dlsite?). Hmmm, ok this last sentence was nonsense Itīs like my papa is stronger as yours

To clear up my previous post, well some of these games have good graphics, but in the end they are boring as hell, and I prefer a picture gallery instead of these horrible text games. I know I know, they are espcacially horrible because I donīt understand the text.
But still that is no game for me, as reading a book or doing a multiple choice test is no game for me.

SuperMarioWorld IS a Game, DukeNukem IS a game, Beyond Good and Evil IS a game, Super Metroid is a game, Zelda is a game, Street Fighter is a game.
Hey yeah, Illusion has also some games with a little more action but still a lot of shitty text. And in these games the XXX and the game is pretty much seperated and the gameplay is awful.

Did I forgot something? If yes, just ask me.
