Ello: Thank you. Regarding your question: I use several tools to create textures. I do most of the job in a 2d-painting application (TheGIMP). Some inputs come from procedural shader generators (Lightwave, Genetica, MapZone). Random details come from procedural generators, filters and photos (via different blending modes). Details like arches, door-knobs and other stuff has to be painted manually.
Sometimes I create complicated structures in 3d to have more control. But often I can do the job in TheGIMP. It has a nice path-tool to create vector-based selections (like splines).
ExCiter: I did not completely understand your proposal. Every customer can brighten or darken the textures if needed. I check all height, spec, normal and color maps in a little 3d-real-time-preview plug-in in TheGIMP and I rework height maps until it looks great in 3d. This is important, otherwise normal maps look too noisy or too flat.

Oha, the pictures are already down from imageshack. That was realy quick. In anyway. All patterns were too flat for my taste. So they are only forming shapes but no bodies. So I edited one of your screenshots to show you what I mean. But I guess you didnßt see it. Anyway what I did didn´t look very well, because it didn´t fit to the rest. There would be too much to change to make it look as I thought. And now as the textures are, they are looking good. So that doesn´t make the work worth to change them. I just think they look a little flat what I don´t like but can be some kind of personal style. Btw, on the picture I uploaded I had edited the left bottom pattern of the picture. I didn´t changed the brightness of your image. I change the brightness of the edited part I did. It´s good as it´s now. Maybe too Kleinkariert by me

Here are new shots from the same scene with a few more details added: And here is this scene without any shaders and without shadows, just simple real-time OpenGL: This little room still has less polies than an average Oblivion room. So it could be used in a game-level. Maybe I try that later.
