I downloaded it. Here is my review:
If you have never heard of a GDD or TDD before, if UML and Timelines are a mystery to you, then this program will help you get grounded in these very important documents. It is a very nice comprehenisve tool that puts in one interface several of the different formats you will need to create this document. It has the different sections (gameplay, items, levels, bonuses, scoring, etc) of these documents and walks you through the process. This program would be great to teach people about how to create these documents. Each section has a basic description of the document and what goes in it, what questions to ask, etc. There are also several Wizards that help you create items, quests, weapons, etc. However, the wizard is very generic and little more than a "name, description, special effect" fill in the blank exercis.
As anything but completely new to game development, this tool however is worthless. After having created one GDD or TDD, successfully or not, you have for yourself a template on which to base your further docuements. Even a cursory search of the net yields several useful GDD and TDD templates already which you can use and that have about 80% of the coverage included in this package. It is a nice feature to have all this crossreferenced, but if you do you documents on a wiki or CVS, their searching is much more robust than this. It's also nice to have UML, Timelines, graphs but if you have Visio and Excel (or their OS equivalents), then not much new here. The point is that if you are a serious developer and have created these documents even once before (on your own, in school, or for work), there is nothing in here that we don't already have or don't need.
This would be an incredibly powerful tool to have in the game development classroom. However, if you've done a GDD or TDD once, then nothing here will be of any help to you now or later.
Final Conclusion: Great for absolute Newbies; Useless beyond.
