Hi all,
This thread is to showcase a small portion of Ran Man's Noah's Ark game, in doing so I'd also like to show someone an overview of a professional set up of game characters for animation. In these shots I am going to rig and animate a model for a game trailor cinematic, in the cinematic, I will be animating the characters in walk cycles and complete facial animation.

The base model I will be using is one created by Dan Silverman, and I cant give too many details about what the animation sequences will actually be because the game has not been released. All of the additonal geometry and texturing to the models are done by me. The rigging and animation is of course done by me in maya, and the video itself is made in WINK, which is a great free program I would recommend anyone to have.

I tried to make as much information as possible about the process without bogging down into too much detail, which would also make the presentation less tool-specific. I hope you'll give me feedback especially if something is unclear or just downright wrong. Anyways, its a WIP so I'll be uploading it as I do it. I hope somebody might learn something from it, even if it is not a huge amount of knowledge

Thanks for watching!

**note that there are controls on the bottom to stop and resume the movie, but I have each frame set for 5 seconds now**

Cool, it's all very well explained, crystal clear and yeah it's definitely general enough for it to be off good use in other programs as well. Thanks!

Cheers

Thanks guys.

Here is the next installment. These two parts may be a little boring because it really is a lot of work to rig these models correctly, so what your seeing is just a lot of technical work. This is the kind of work you would have if you were a technical director at a game or movie company. There is not much glory in the technical side of character creation compared to the modeling and animating part....

The rigging gets a little complicated here, but for more information you can see Javier Goosh Solsona
also the book I learned most from was game character development
and another good book: maya character creation

The biggest advice for rigging is just be persistent because although it seems daunting at first, the more you learn the easier it becomes. Anyways these videos are not meant to be in depth tutorials but just overviews of the whole process. But let me know if there is anything I left out.

Hey Nitro,

Let me say that --> I'm really impressed man! Really!!!

Because, I've seen you animate before, but not like this.

WOO, HA, HA!

This IS the main game character, so I'm exited!

Any animations that you give her, I will use. Any winks, eye blinks, laughs, frowns, etc. Any and all animations will be used.

Wow, listen man, with Dan Silverman doing the models and you doing the animations, we can all send a lot of people into orbit with this thing. lol
The more LIFE-LIKE that you make her, then the more they will freak out when that other event occurs. Hehe

This model will be in 2 different movies and maybe more.

Gosh, lots of people will be moved, I can see it bro.
I just have to finish up the last 2 levels, and then learn FLASH programming for the future site.

Thanks.
