i want to understand something. why does the block that i texture in wed with sky have a black bottom? i want an entire sky all around.

in the block property set it to skycube.

Only ever had this prob when I failed to select all the planes from the 'scope down' function.
Applying texture as sky on a complete (no scope down)box has always generated a full skybox.

Nems, can you explain again? i wanted to use a skycube for outdoor levels, but i just cant seem to get it to work properly. any help would be great.

Sorry for delay..
What happened to me when I had a similar problem is that;
1. I textured the inside of a hollow box by using the scope-down function then selecting each individual face (from inside the block)and applying the sky texture.
What I failed to do was to make sure that the correct face of the individual block (e.g. Top block) was selected and not one of the edges.
Using each blocks property values I then selected the correct plane and it all went well.

2. If the sky box is larger than the 'bounds' of the level then you are going to get sorting errors that look similar to what you described, especially if your player character is close to the edge of the large level.

3. Another one I recall was that if the box is not centered or made to fit the level with the level origin in mind, these sorting issues also crop up so dont think you need to have an absolutly squared sky box, a rectangle will work just as well.

There were others too but they have faded from memory and I think they were related to clipping distance (though skyboxes arn't affected by clipping)

Best thing to do is to email a basic level where this issue shows up and lets see if we can nut it out.

Why even bother scoping down and selecting each face of the block to apply the texture , just add a cube , scale it to be around ur whole level , then click hollow block , then just apply the sky texture to the whole hollowed block thats selected. I've always done it that way and never had a problem with it , you dont have to scope down a hollowed block to apply to each face , so why bother , just hollow it and apply the sky texture to the thing. If that doesnt work , make sure the skycube image has the +6 at the end of the name , like level_skycube+6.tga , you can also try looking at the skycube image and make sure the image used for the bottom of the skycube is not black or a very dark color , lol , though unlikely everything is possible when finding a bug. Other than that if it works for the other 5 sides it should work for the bottom one as well.
