Aight yea I heard something like that solves z-sorting problems. But haven't tried the tga hair on that model yet, actually I didn't improve anything at all on the model I picked up an old project and I want to finish it this time . Anyway, thanx for showing this, it adds alot of realism indeed . I will implement it later.

Very impressive!
But how did you avoid the TGA alpha glitch?

NOt that you need it, but a good way to help your hair is using a simple shader. (In fact, you don't even need a shader, just the material technique).

Using two passes, you can render the backside's of the hair polies, and then another pass rendering them regular. This way both sides of the hair TGA can be rendered, so your hair will become thicker using less models...

I did this in a shader for AlienHeretic, I'll see if I can find it and post a shot when I get home (with his permission, it's his project/model)

make a TGA that looks like this:
Code:

@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@
@@@@
@@@@
@@
@@
@@
@@

make a bunch of little 4-poly bits like this:
Code:

_______
/
/
/
/
/___
/
/
/
/
/___

bend them, put them all over your character's head, and give them the skin you just did. for skinning's sake, it would probably be best to make one, skin it, and THEN duplicate.

that's the end of my lesson

@oldschoolj: the hair looks fluffy and like it lacks much planning but it is quite a good example on how to do it. good on you for showing us this

also some good pixel shading will make the back darker, and the effect with a little more contrast.

also you would have a little more dark streaks in it.

Yeah im also pretty sure the hair in Kingdom Hearts was modelled. It looks different when they move and such, you see its more 3D and not a plain polygons with tga texture.
