Provided it's an accurate number, a source close to the band has anonymously stated that the album sold 1.2 million copies on day 1. This could potentially make it the new first day sales champion. The previous one was N'Sync's No Strings Attached which sold just over a million on day one and 2.4 million on week one. Of course, the two bands are apples and oranges. N'Sync isn't a band, and Radiohead are one of the most influential bands in the history of music. Manufactured, assembly line pop garbage vs. handcrafted genius.

Even if it is accurate, it still isn't really accurate, because a lot of people who wanted to get it couldn't since the site's servers were so slow that thousands had to give up. Lots of people are sharing it, so the real number is probably astronomical.
