This game (the official one) has been in the works for over a year and stars ALL of the original actor's voices and likenesses. It's also written by Dan Akyroyd and Harold Ramis (Ray and Egon) and based on an idea that is 15 years old and was going to be the Ghostbusters 3 movie (Ghostbusters going to Hell), so there won't be any lawsuits here. Also, if you do a little research, that Slimer level is the tutorial level, so maybe they are paying homage to the 3DGS fan game. Also, given this is such a lucrative franchise, you can't just ask for permission to finish it. You have to pay them the big Microsoft dollars and then get it approved by Bill Murray (good luck ).

Back in those days (2004)/5 i wrote to Activision and paramount/Sony pictures as they where holding the Ghostbusters licence rights. I got a nice reply about me asking to pay for a licence to create a game about the ghostbusters so Bill Murray has nothing to do with it;) Dan akroyd wanted to make a third movie but did not get the original cast approval voor the movie aswel studios did not agree. So now that script is used for the video-game and i would not be suprised to see an other third ghostbusters movie with a brand new cast. And as a huge fan this game can count on my support Fun thing is to see when zootfly (Other software game firm)created GB game movies they had to remove it from yourtube and so i had to do with my clips now i am allowed to show my demo It's nice to see this game finnally come to life as the fans are screaming for it. Who you conna call ? (Not me)

I know Murray has nothing to do with it. That was sarcasm. His infamous hatred for the films is more or less why we never got a 3rd film. He said he would have done a cameo and nothing more, and the fans want him or no film at all. The fact that he is doing the voice and lending his likeness is a miracle. Of course, if your GB used any of their likenesses, you'd have to get approval from the actors and pay them big bucks, too. At that time, Murray would have turned you down even if you had somehow gotten the rights. The amount of money to license this property would probably give most of us nightmares.
The talk of a new cast (with the old cast seeing them off) has been talked about, but I don't think that's going to happen. There's been talk of that for Goonies 2 with their kids, but I think the idea stinks for both franchises.
Also, it looks like the Ghostbusters go to Hell storyline is not being used for this game, although Aykroyd has recently stated that this game is essentially GBIII and that the Hell storyline might be turned into a CGI film at some point.
