Hi,

I was playing around with the A7 demo, in particular with WED, and I'm somewhat confused with a few things - wondering if anyone can help:

1) In what version is the demo version based on? I was under the impression that it was the commercial, but following the WED tutorial I cannot get a reflexion on the "Waxing the floor" step so I guess render to texture isn't there...

2) Even disregarding the reflex, I cannot get such vibrant looks/lighting as in chapters "Waxing the floor" or "Finished for now". It always looks like "The Desk". Am I missing something?

3) I cannot find in WED A7 where you do the "Adding the Player Script" step. Just as well it seems to already be in the project... but I'd still like to know if this was deprecated or I'm just blind.

4) Moving away from the tutorial, I have noticed that if I texture an object with the whirly textures from the standard.wad, they will not cast/receive shadows at all. Even if I tick shaded in the surface flags. Is it supposed to do that?

Incidentally my videocard is a nVidia 7900 GT so it's more than capable to render this sort of thing.

Many thanks!

Welcome to GameStudio, mmelo!

1 and 2) The trial version is based to the Extra edition, I believe. Certainly you won't be able to do reflective surfaces with it (sorry ). All versions of 3DGS should look "vibrant" if you have good art but a lot of cool effects are disabled in the trial version.

3) If the tutorial is outdated it might tell you to click File>Add Script. Since 6.40.something this has been replaced by File>Project Manager, "Add" tab, "Add Script" button.

4) The turbulence textures change a lot of the objects' properties, which are hard to hunt down and return to normal. Among others, the block becomes Passable in a weird, impossible to undo way. You might want to put a normal block inside the turbulence one, that will cast a shadow and keep players from going through it.

Good luck!

Awesome..thank you Futuru, I had all these same questions. I spent an hour trying to wax those damn floors.

Guess me and the OP need to get the full version.

Yeah, many thanks Futurulus.

I am still curious about the "vibrant" thing. Even disregarding the lack of reflections, the thing is the portals don't "glow" or emit light like the screen shots in "Waxing the floor" or "Finished for now": they're just animated textures that look dull as seen on the screenshot in page "The Desk". Is this due to any other limitation on the trial version?

As for the add script, I imagined this had indeed changed. The thing is, according to the tutorial, the "File>Project Manager>Add tab" already existed on that old version. So it seems that they have just opted to remove the alternative (faster and more direct) way of adding a script, which is odd... oh well.

@Sabin2k: yeah, I guess we do. Anyway, if Mev Dinc can do "Kabus 22" using 3DGS (still can't believe how good that looks) then this must be a fine piece of software!

I'm not actually familiar with the WED tutorial, but lighting is usually pretty realistic even in the trial version.
A possible exception is if you see light "streaming in" in a visible beam, as if reflecting off dust; that might be a trial limitation.
What I meant by "all versions should look 'vibrant' " is there aren't enough restrictions on graphics to seriously dull the look of the trial version --
here a few unrealistic shadows, there an object that's supposed to be shiny that isn't, but that's all.

If you want to make another "Kabus," the software won't stop you!
