When i came into this forum years ago, i remember there was a Robot Arena game, where you can let fight robots against each others.

Where is it now? Why did noone or Doug (i think he designed it) work on it? I always wanted to script my own robot for it too but my scripting-skill were too bad back then.

same here...
I guess though there hasnt been enough animo to continue this at that time...
though a new updated (A6/A7) version would be awesome, i'd script my own SUPERBOT!
maybe nice to continue this again?

regards,

If we decide to script our own arena, I'm willing to get involved .

EDIT:
No really, it could be pretty cool, if participants could write and model their own robot, limited by a template movement/fight code and certain rules... who knows what could come out

we could also have labyrinths so i'd enter with a hardcore version of my botz from botMaze

btw, it would be cool if one could just enter with a bot, no scripting rules to see which one is the best. no rules, everything is allowed (ok, no ent_remove while looping thru the list of all ents

But you need to define a goal without a goal you can't win, and without scripting rules, how can one define a goal . Nobody will allow their robot to die if there are no rules anyway ^^.

Maybe a maze indeed where a certain coordinate should be reached. This can either be manually or through an algorithm, or complex movement system, whatever you wish. Rules such as collision detection and gravity can be at the server side, while looping through all the entities. The rest is up to the player. Anything is allowed when the server script has the last words anyway... .

of course. it cant be that trivial, but say, you have different values. e.g. the sum of armor + speed needs to be the same for all. the ammount of energy/ammo at the beginning is the same. the impact values for certain predefined weapons are fixed (laser, gun, chainsaw, etc.)

but the art of detecting the environment, sort of remembering the past way, the way how a robot reacts if others appear and how they act. thats all up to the creator

just imagine you have to create a robot which by itselfs considers what an attack is. no matter if the opponent is flying , driving or sneaking

Every bot could have lets say...1000 Points wich can be freely distributed for specific skills (like building a char in an rpg), such as: strenght,speed,health...beside that, there should be rounds(3 rounds)...after each round the looser may improove/adapt the AI of his bot.
Size of the bots shouild be limitted within a certain range.
