I was (all of a sudden ) wondering what kind of demo you all would like to see to represent our beloved engine to other people, taken that the demo is fun and creative, but with average graphics. What game would make you proud enough to represent 3dgs to others and motivate yourself to create games with Gamestudio? Note: - So this is not about stunning graphics, just the gameplay type. What would you like to see more made out of 3dgs?
- Mutliple choices are allowed, but I still mean ONE gameplay type. I did it for combining if you had a special game in mind, and it still gives an average of what the community would like to see
.
- No, I am not gonna try making such a game, I am just curious to what you all think that would help improving 3dgs marketing-wise!
- I placed it in morbius instead of Gameplay and Gamedesign because there are simply more people here
. I know, wrong... but still truth.
- I vote for 2D games.

FPS is my vote, only way to go...YeeeHah!
LOL!
I voted for multiplayer, RTS and a small demo compilation of A7 features(like ALL other engines have), cause that's what gamestudio is lacking at this point
it also lacks on adventure games, but no-one seems to care..

Gamestudio should not be taken for 2D Development. It could, but there are far better alternatives suited for this, wich are smaller and have better options for 2D games.
I'm not gonna say you are wrong, but that's actually the reason why I like making 2D games. It's unnecesarily hard, complicated and could be achieved a hundred times faster with other tools (like flash)...
But see, I am not selling my games anyway. What I do, is trying to expand the borders of 3DGS on areas where others would have left it for granted. 2D is one of them, but by decreasing those (seemingly unimportant) limits (by making code, examples, even a possible framework) IMHO you can help developing the engine and community alot and shows that the engine can do things where most people would say it can not.

There aren't alot of adventure game fans here indeed, sadly. Though you can't base that conclusion on this poll, because adventure games are simply not suitable for a presentation ^^. I'd be getting pretty bored if I had to watch someone else solving puzzles...

I was thinking that a good flight physics demo would be cool to see. I mean, 3DGS's physics engine is a little limited as far as that's concerned, but if you did it right (what with the terribly complex math and all that, making it a bit of a challenge), you could pull off a really good model of flight physics. (I've actually been thinking I may try this myself sooner or later, )
void main()
{
cout << "I am MrCode,";
cout << "hear me roar!";
system("PAUSE");
}

Basically, is indeed true that 3dgs misses a small demo which features the capabilities just like Aris mentioned. We could easy set up a demo which represents AI, physics, shaders, online mode, shadows and other great plus points about the A6 and A7 engine. Since all the aspects I just summed are ready to use atm with a professional quality like IntenseAI, Sphere engine 1&2 and many others, this would work if someone had the time to set it up Otherwise, I voted as well for FPS and small role playing for the online aspect Btw, nice topic Joozey ^^ Cheers Frazzle

I'm sure the demo would be big.
As it's basic idea is to give customer a view about what exactly can he/she do with it. It should be able to answer most of these questions: - Is it terrain based (RPG's) or more to blocks (FPS) or does it have the overall quality? - Is it capable for stresstaking MMORPG games? - Is it capable to process shaders? - Is it hobbyist or professional engine? - Can it render next gen graphics with decent framerates? - Is it's interface usable? - Can it be used for something else than games? - What is the unique "feel" in the engine?

I believe the easiest way to do this, would be for Conitec to ask us - the users - to create some demos (more than 1!) and offer some kind of reward for the best DEMOS. This way there would be a bunch of demos, each showing one part of the engine - physics, AI, MP capabilities, shaders, etc., and one demo wouldn't be over-packed with all the possibilities the engine offers. Also, if a potential customer is interested in only, let's say, physics, then he wouldn't have to play through unnecessary parts of the game, just to get to the physics!
